Inkle Loom Yarns
Inkle loom weaving is warp-faced weaving, which means that all of the warp threads are shown outside the weft threads which are not particularly visible in the finished piece. Like with other types of weaving, the yarn you use needs to be very strong and hold up against abrasion. Especially with a technique as tight and compact as inkle weaving. Something smooth that doesn’t have much stretch is ideal for this. Mercerized cotton is an excellent option, but you could also use tightly twisted wools as well! We have a few recommendations for yarns to use with your inkle loom below:
- Omega Sinfonia - This is a 100% Mercerized Cotton, 6 ply yarn. It comes in balls of 218 yards. This is a sport weight yarn so it's a perfect in between size, especially for inkle weaving!
- Linen Rug Warp Yarn 8/4 – If you're wanting an option that isn't cotton, this linen should behave in a similar fashion.
- Valley Yarns Mercerized Perle Cotton 3/2 & 5/2 – 3/2 and 5/2 yarns tend to work very well on inkle looms and being mercerized gives it a nice luster in the finished product.
