Punch and Hook Yarns
Punch and Hook Yarns
Just about any yarn can be used for punching and hooking provided that you have an appropriate sized punch needle or hook. However, depending on what you’re making will determine what type of yarn will be best.
Rug wool yarn is coarser and tends to withstand long-term use making it suitable for pillows and rugs. For all other projects, you can punch or hook with pretty much anything! Keep in mind that silky yarns with a lot of slip to them might be more difficult to punch or hook as they can slide out of place and create uneven loops.
In addition to a vast array of materials, you can punch with different yarn weights as well. From embroidery floss to bulky yarn, if it can fit into the eye of your needle, you can punch it! With yarn hooking, we don’t recommend using embroidery floss, but you can still play with different yarn weights for added texture!
