Rigid Heddles

Rigid Heddles

A heddle functions to raise or lower the warp threads. What makes rigid heddles different from wire or Texsolv heddles is that rigid heddles move warp threads as a group to create the shed. Rigid heddles have a slot and hole for warp threads to go and create the shed depending on its position in the heddle block.

Most rigid heddle looms can accommodate 2 or 3 heddles to create more complex patterns beyond plain weave. Not all rigid heddles are alike and cannot be used interchangeably among different loom brands. However, there are some compatibilities with the variable dent reed across different brands. That chart can be found here.
