A fly shuttle is a device, which makes weaving wide warps easier, when it would be difficult to throw a shuttle by hand.
The lower part of the beater has a short box on each end. This box can be adjusted inward for narrower warps. In each shuttle box there is a catcher/thrower, that can move along the box. A cord from each catcher is joined in the center of the loom and attached to a handle. By pulling the handle, the shuttle is thrown through the open shed to the other box.
