The Art of Punch Needle Embroidery
Authors: Marie Suarez
Punch needle embroidery is similar to rug hooking, whereby a strand of yarn or fabric is pushed through loose-weave fabric, making a ‘loop’. Repeated several times, the loops squash together to create a stunning, dense, tactile piece of fabric. With needle punching, a special needle is used to make this process much easier and quicker, meaning you can create incredible textured designs with less know-how and in very little time at all.
A traditional technique that came out of the US in the 19th century, it’s now been revitalized and is right on trend, appealing to many textile enthusiasts. Learn and discover the delights of punch needle embroidery in this gorgeous practical book from France's favorite crafter, Marie Suarez. Starting with the key materials and equipment you’ll need, as well as the basic punch-needle stitches and techniques, go straight into making 20 creative and original projects – from simple cushions and pretty wall hangings to stylish bags and even a cleaning pad!
All the projects are accompanied by beautiful photographs, diagrams to help you workout what to stitch first and handy tips and tricks for successful work.
While she was a nurse, Marie Suarez spent her free time embroidering, a passion she had had since childhood. After many years, she decided to make this passion her job. Self-taught, she spent time rigorously studying the works and techniques of trained and accomplished embroiderers, as well visiting museums, exhibitions and participating in conferences on embroidery, in order to improve her abilities. The Belgian designer has since received the title of Master Embroiderer, and is a best-selling embroidery author in Europe, writing 28 practical books in French. When she's not writing or creating commissioned work, she shares her techniques and thoughts via her blog, suarezmarie.canalblog.com, or sells her designs and the works of other established embroiderers via her website, mariesuarez.com.
Marie lives in Beersel, Brabant in Belgium.
