Rigid Heddle Cozy Texture Scarf Project

Rigid Heddle Cozy Texture Scarf Project

Emily and Amy

We're currently in the mood for weaving projects that are really simple and relaxing to weave, but have some extra special visual impact. Amy wanted to make a more paired down version of our Rigid Heddle Texture Infusion Project that uses a cozier yarn in only one color combined with the super colorful and texture packed Feza Alp Premier Yarn. The pops of texture against the luxurious Suri Surpreme Weaving Edition Yarn (Note: Suri Supreme has been discontinued, we recommend Louisa Harding Caraz as a substitute) make for a really lovely finished scarf.

Pattern: Plain Weave

We wrote this pattern up for a Rigid Heddle Loom but you can also use a Floor Loom or a Table Loom! Check out our blog post, How to Create Plain Weave on a Multi Harness Loom if you need help setting up your treadles!

Warp up your loom with 8" of width and 80" of length. We randomly interspersed our Feza in the warp, sometimes making it close to itself, sometimes having large gaps of Suri (Note: Suri Supreme has been discontinued, we recommend Louisa Harding Caraz as a substitute.) in between. Play with it as you go and have fun placing your pops of texture.

If you use only half of your Feza skein you should be able to make two scarves with these dimensions. You can weigh the Feza as you go to keep track of how much you have left or pre weigh and divide it into two separate halves. If you don't want to make two scarves, pack as much texture in the scarf as your heart desires!

Leave a bit of extra length for your fringe, we left around 12". Most of the weft is woven with the Suri Alpaca (sub. Caraz) with just occasional picks of the Feza thrown in every couple feet or so for interest.

Our scarf measured 78" long once it was taken off tension. Amy finished off the scarf with twisted fringe. She twisted the fringe in bundles of four ends.
