How to Wash and Dry Wool Projects

Machine Washing instructions:

Use a detergent specific for wool, set the washing machine to gentle or delicate mode. This is so the wool fibers won’t get damaged in the wash and to avoid tangles in your wool fibers, place them in a mesh bag, this also helps to prevent clogging the washing machine with the fibers.

How to Wash and Dry Cotton Projects

Hand Washing Instructions:

Using a clean; sink, tub, or basin, fill the container with lukewarm water and add your gentle soap to the water. Extreme temperatures can damage your yarn. For 15 minutes soak your project, gently swishing it around to remove grime and dirt. After soaking, take your project out and gently squeeze excess water. After removing excess water, empty your container and refill it with soap-free lukewarm water. Let your project soak back into the lukewarm water for another 15 minutes and swish it around to remove the soap.

Machine Washing Instructions:

Depending on the yarn, some cotton yarn can be machine washed, just make sure to check the label before doing so. Choosing the delicate cycle with a low spin speed, this will help to avoid damage to the yarn. Be sure to place your yarn projects in a mesh bag.

Air-Drying Instructions:

After washing your cotton yarn or garments, gently squeeze out the excess water, lay them on a towel and roll the garments into the towel, gently squeezing as you go. Do this as many times as you see fit, after you’re done towel rolling, lay your newly washed garments on a blocking board or a clean dry towel. To avoid fading, do not place in direct sunlight and we do not recommend line-drying, the weight of the wet garment will cause the fibers to stretch and warp.

Machine Drying Instructions:

Be sure to check the label of your yarn and make sure it is okay to machine wash. When machine washing your garments, it’s best to opt for a low heat setting to minimize shrinkage and be sure to check on your garments during the drying process to make sure there is no damage.

This wash is perfect for all types of fiber and would also be good to use with linen projects as well.

How to Wash and Dry Linen Projects

Before using your Linen project:

It is suggested when working with linen yarn to soak it in warm water for at least 30 minutes before use. The reason being that linen yarn can be quite rough, depending on the brand, and linen becomes softer after each wash.

Machine Washing Instructions:

While you can hand-wash a finished linen project, linen yarn loves the washing machine. It is recommended to use low temperature water and we recommend using the delicate cycle with gentle detergent. The more you wash linen, the softer it gets.

Machine Drying Instructions:

Along with the washing instructions, it is recommended to use low temperatures and a low tumble cycle. Be sure for both washing and drying to use a sample swatch to test out how your specific yarn handles the washer and dryer.

We hope that this blog was helpful for you in your crafting journey and we hope you know how to wash your finished projects with care! While we made this for you, please make sure to read the care instructions on your yarn because care can depend on the type of fiber and what blend of fibers is in the yarn makeup.
