Top 5 New Yarns at The Woolery

Top 5 New Yarns at The Woolery

Posted by Emily on May 26th 2021

We're always on the hunt for new yarns to add to our selection, but this year we have added so many great new yarns that we thought it would be nice to take the time to spotlight on some of our favorites!

1. Ella Rae DK Merino Superwash Yarn

We love this super soft merino yarn by Ella Rae. The colors are absolutely gorgeous and as you can see from the photo above, we have been loving putting together different color fades and gradients with the lovely hues. This yarn comes in both solid and heathered options. It's great for knitting and we may even be working on an upcoming knitting pattern blog post for you playing with this yarn and some stranded color work. Around the shop we have been using it as a solid in combination with some handspun in weaving projects.

The above project features handspun made from Malabrigo Nube as the warp and Ella Rae DK Merino Superwash as the weft. The solid colors make for a great offset to more colorful handspun yarns.

2. Kid Cotton Yarn

We added this 100% Mercerized Cotton yarn because we love the palette of brights and pastels. We think it would be fabulous for weaving Dish Towels on a Rigid Heddle Loom because it's a 6/2 weaving weight and a Sport knitting weight. It would be great for a 10 dent or 12 dent rigid heddle. We have a very exciting weaving project tutorial in the works for this one so keep your eyes peeled for that.

3. Rowan Big Wool

We wanted to add a bulky yarn to use for adding chunky texture to tapestry projects and Rowan Big Wool fits that bill perfectly! This 100% merino yarn is so soft and fluffy. It's also excellent for knitting up really quick projects that are super warm and cozy.

4. Painted Desert Yarn

We're super excited about adding this color shifting yarn to our lineup! It's so fun to work with and see the color shifting gradually throughout your project. This one is 100% superwash wool. It's a Fingering weight in knitting weights and about a 6/2 in weaving weights. Amy is currently weaving this up on her Ashford Knitters Loom and is making a scarf from just one ball. We'll have finished pictures and more details on this project for you later but look at how lovely this is weaving up!

Amy is using a 10 dent reed and her length in the reed is 13". She has 80" of warp on the loom. We think it would be so fun to make many different scarves in the different color ways of this yarn to see the different shifting patterns!

5. The Croft Shetland Yarn

Yarns that feature specific breeds of sheep are some of our favorites and The Croft by West Yorkshire Spinners is no exception. This yarn has two different color lines Tweed and Shetland Colours. They work together beautifully, so you can pick out solids that match the speckles of the Tweed line. This is a worsted weight yarn that is great for both weaving and knitting.

We always love to hear your suggestions for yarns we should add, feel free to email us at info@woolery.com if you have any questions or suggestions! We are also always happy to answer any questions you may have about how specific colors look paired together.
