Cozy Texture Scarf Project

Cozy Texture Scarf Project

Posted by Emily and Amy on Mar 18th 2021

We're currently in the mood for weaving projects that are really simple and relaxing to weave, but have some extra special visual impact. Amy wanted to make a more paired down version of our Rigid Heddle Texture Infusion Project that uses a cozier yarn in only one color combined with the super colorful and texture packed Feza Alp Premier Yarn. The pops of texture against the luxurious Suri Surpreme Weaving Edition Yarn make for a really lovely finished scarf.

Materials Needed:

Pattern: Plain Weave

We wrote this pattern up for a Rigid Heddle Loom but you can also use a Floor Loom or a Table Loom! Check out our blog post, How to Create Plain Weave on a Multi Harness Loom if you need help setting up your treadles!

Warp up your loom with 8" of width and 80" of length. We randomly interspersed our Feza in the warp, sometimes making it close to itself, sometimes having large gaps of Suri in between. Play with it as you go and have fun placing your pops of texture.

If you use only half of your Feza skein you should be able to make two scarves with these dimensions. You can weigh the Feza as you go to keep track of how much you have left or pre weigh and divide it into two separate halves. If you don't want to make two scarves, pack as much texture in the scarf as your heart desires!

Leave a bit of extra length for your fringe, we left around 12". Most of the weft is woven with the Suri Alpaca with just occasional picks of the Feza thrown in every couple feet or so for interest. For the weft our Suri Supreme yarn is doubled up. The Feza should NOT be doubled up. This will give your scarf a more even weave because the Suri slimmer than the Feza. It will also make for a cozier scarf. Check out our below video for tips on setting yourself up to weave with your yarn doubled.

Our scarf measured 78" long once it was taken off tension. Amy finished off the scarf with twisted fringe. She twisted the fringe in bundles of four ends.

Our orange Southwest inspired scarf uses  Feza Alp Premier Yarn in Color 412 and Suri Supreme Weaving Edition Yarn in Orange Delight. We put together some additional color combo kits so there should be something for everyone!

Curio Cabinet gives us really classy vintage vibes. The  Suri Supreme Weaving Edition Yarn in Cinnamon is picked up in the red touches of this Feza Alp Premier Yarn in Color 007. We think the shots of black and deep chocolate brown in the Feza will contrast beautifully with the Cinnamon.

Confetti Cake uses the  Suri Supreme Weaving Edition Yarn in Basalt. The yarn we picked to pair it with is Feza Alp Premier Yarn in Color 418. The grey in this Feza will blend in with the grey of the Suri in Basalt making the pops of candy colored pastels feel like sprinkles running through your scarf.

If pastels aren't your thing but you love the grey neutral of the  Suri Supreme Weaving Edition Yarn in Basalt, Above the Fold might be your kit! We chose Feza Alp Premier Yarn in Color 415 for a newsprint inspired palette. This neutral black and grey scarf could be a very versatile staple in any wardrobe.

Cape Cod Cottage makes us think of the gorgeous  Suri Supreme Weaving Edition Yarn in Nantucket Cove. This is a true classic blue that makes us think of coastal landscapes and seaside getaways. We chose Feza Alp Premier Yarn in Color 424 to pair for a really classy monochrome look.

Golden Hour is planned around the  Suri Supreme Weaving Edition Yarn in Goldenrod. This rich luscious golden yellow simply glows in person. We love how the copper metallics of the Feza Alp Premier Yarn in Color 414 play with this complex yellow. This combo will make a statement scarf that will stand out in a crowd.

This kit draws its inspiration from nature. The  Suri Supreme Weaving Edition in Evergreen we have chosen is a wonderful jewel tone. It's a green that leans heavy on the blue side of green so it pairs nicely with this skein of Feza Alp Premier Yarn in Color 117. Pops of berry reds, blues, and purples will make your scarf have a painterly floral palette.

Swamp Witch features the deep black  Suri Supreme Weaving Edition Yarn in Stormy Night. The grungy green of this Feza Alp Premier Yarn in Color 428 made us think of spooky swamps filled with creepies and crawlies. If you need a scarf that says "I'll get you my pretty!" or "Mirror, Mirror on the wall who is the fairest one of all?" try this combo out.

Black is the new black. We used  Stormy Night in the Suri Supreme Weaving Edition Yarn again for this kit but this time paired it with Feza Alp Premier Yarn in Color 404. This is the kit to pick when you just can't get enough black in your wardrobe.

For our under the sea themed kit we used the  Suri Supreme Weaving Edition Yarn in Caribbean Sea. Its paired with Feza Alp Premier Yarn in Color 023 which features delightful pops of turquoise, blue, lavender, and bits of magenta. It makes use think of fantastical mermaids lounging in magical pools.

Hazelnut Latte is for our cozy warm neutral lovers. The  Suri Supreme Weaving Edition Yarn in Natural Fawn is paired with Feza Alp Premier Yarn in Color 401. We practically smell chocolate and coffee when looking at this kit. Neutrals are easy to fit into wardrobes that are already very colorful so you would get a lot of use out of this one!
