Christmas in July
Posted by Emily on Jul 30th 2020
Here in Kentucky, it's hot. It currently feels like 95 with the heat index and the last thing we want to think about is Christmas. But, as crafters, we need to accept that handmade goods take time. If you're wanting to make Christmas themed decor for yourself or as gifts, you might want to start planning out your projects now. We have all been there on Thanksgiving evening, being sleepy from a big meal and suddenly panicking that you have less than a month to finish all those Christmas gifts you've been planning. Save yourself that panic by writing down a plan for how many gifts you're going to make now. We curated a list of some of our favorite Christmas project ideas in several varieties of craft disciplines to give you some inspiration!
Felt Ornament Kit - Charcoal Mittens
We really love these Rachel's of Greenfield felt ornament kits. They come with everything you need to make the whole set of mitten designs! We also like that they can double as giftcard holders and ornaments. We have two other styles of felt ornament mittens if the ones above aren't your style or you want to make as many cute mini mittens as possible! There is a more traditional Christmas colors set with classic simple motifs as well as a cute Christmas Critters set that is great because it is more generally winter themed so you could leave them up longer!
Punch Needle Kit - Christmas Jar Toppers
We love all of Teresa Miller's punch needle creations and these Christmas Jar toppers are no exception. How fun would it be to give some homemade candies in a jar with one of these adorable toppers? We also like that these are a nice small manageable project to make each topper.
DMC Holiday Decor Embroidery Floss
This DMC Holiday Decor collection is great for both people who like kits and people who prefer to do their own thing. It comes with 4 cross stitch designs in the box, or you can use the curated collection of colors to make your own winter embroidery creations.
Christmas Ornaments to Crochet
This book has 31 crochet ornament patterns including all 12 Days of Christmas and a full Nativity scene, so it could keep you busy for quite awhile! Check out our product page for the book to see the full list of included patterns!
If knitting is your craft of choice, then this is a fantastic book! Knitting ornaments is quick and fun. With Arne & Carlos' fantastic colorwork patterns you'll have a whole tree worth of ornaments knit up in no time.
Painting with Wool Needle Felting Kit - Winter Snow
This is another kit we really like because it's winter themed and not specifically Christmas themed so it's a great gift for someone who doesn't celebrate Christmas. It's also perfect to make as home decor for yourself because you can leave it up well into February.
We have a lot of fun Christmas and winter themed felting kits, but we wanted to make sure to share this one with you because it's wet felted, not needle felted! This means even young kids can help out with the crafting because there aren't any sharp pokey needles involved.
This rug punch kit from The Bee Skep is designed to be used with an Oxford #14 punch needle. We think it would make really festive holiday decor.
Merry Christmas Rug Hooking Kit
How fun would it be to add a Christmas themed rug to your holiday decor? This rug hooking kit from The Blue Tulip comes with precut wool strips so you can start rug hooking right away without needing to cut strips.
Zoom Loom Swatch Critter Kit - Gingerbread House
This little gingerbread house is so cute, it would look adorable sitting on a mantel or shelf as some fun holiday decor. DJE Swatch Critter Kits are designed to be made with the Schacht Zoom Loom.
We hope you're inspired to get a head start on your holiday crafting this year! If this wasn't enough Christmas crafting for you, remember you can Shop by Holiday to see all of our Christmas themed projects in one spot!
