Designed by two Sami band weavers in Sweden, Stoorstalka products capture the spirit of the Sami weaving style and combine them with modern materials. Sami weaving has historically produced bands for use as belts, on backpacks and as clothing accessories. The Sami (Saami) are indigenous inhabitants of the northern regions of modern day Norway, Finland, Sweden and the Kola Peninsula of Russia.
Stoorstalka's smallest pattern picking heddle, Sunna 5 is included in the kit. It has five slots for pattern threads and make picking patterns very easy. If you never have woven bands before, we recommend that you to start with another weaving kit: Bandweaving Kit Jokkmokk which is the most basic form of bandweaving.
Áhkko is a 4-ply worsted weight 100% wool yarn.

"This kit gives a good introduction to band-weaving on a back strap set-up. The instructions are adequate, but minimal--the videos on the company website are very helpful. The pieces are easy to work with and the price is very affordable. I do wish I had purchased the next level up as the design possibilities with just 5 pattern threads are limiting."

"I purchased this one as a gift, but I’ve used one of the other kits in the same line… They’re wonderful as an “instant gratification” learning opportunity for someone to see if they like the technique. The fact that the heddle is pre-warped and the shuttle is pre-wound means that all you have to do is tie the end to something stationary, the other end to your belt, and start weaving. Once you have an understanding of how the weave structure works, it’s much easier to warp the heddle yourself the next time."
