Sodium Hexametaphosphate is used to modify the flow of Sodium Alginate, making a smoother paste and improving printing and painting results.
Metaphos sequesters calcium and magnesium ions found in hard water. (The same function as a water softener.) These ions will cause sodium alginate thickeners to gel, thus rendering them difficult to use.
