Learning to Weave - Soft Cover

Author: Deborah Chandler

Originally published in 1995, more than 40,000 weavers have used this unparalleled study guide to learn from scratch or to hone their skills. Written with a mentoring voice, each lesson includes friendly, straightforward advice and is accompanied by illustrations and photographs.

Crafters need only to approach this subject with a willingness to learn such basics as three methods for step-by-step warping, basic weaving techniques, project planning, reading and designing drafts, the basics of all the most common weave structures, and many more handy hints.

Beginners will find this guidebook an invaluable teacher, while more seasoned weavers will find food for thought in the chapters on weave structures and drafting.

"As I am new to weaving I went to the best source to get all tools and information and materials needs, The Woolery. i have bought all of my weaving needs from them. i bought the book Learning to Weave, not knowing it was for 4 shaft looms. I was sad to know I had bought a book that I really did not need. Ii am still getting to know my rigid heddle loom, and am at the time, not interested in getting a higher grade loom. Sad that this is not a returnable item, but will hold until I might be ready for it. I did look thru it and it has a world of information for a 4 shaft loom. Well i can dream of going to higher aspirations."

I'm a complete beginner

"I have this book and Peggy Osterkamp's book ""Weaving for Beginners: An Illustrated Guide – 2nd Edition. "" I find Peggy's book more meticulously detailed in instructions for the absolute beginner and have used it, and her sampler, as my first exercise to learn about weaving. This book (Deborah Chandler) complements Peggy's book, however, so I recommend both. This book teaches front-to-back warping and Peggy's book teaches back-to-front warping."
