"it took me about 20 minutes to switch out the old plastic rachets/pawls with the new ones. the instructions were mostly straightforward although a little vague. the metal components are 100% secure for consistent tension, whereas the plastic bits had a tendency to slip. this upgrade (along with 2yd Texsolv to secure the apron rods) has completely transformed my 24"" harp loom and I look forward to weaving on it for many more years."
Useful Pawl Upgrade Kit
"This kit is for people who have an older Kromski rigid heddle loom with the plastic pawl set. The plastic pawl and wheel are prone to slipping when you are trying to wind a warp, especially if you are trying to do it by yourself. The kit comes with parts to replace the plastic pawl and wheel with a set of metal ones. The kit includes a strong magnet to be screwed into the wood near the locking lever (pawl) so that it automatically clicks into a locked position on the toothed wheel. The instructions are not great - there is a visual list of everything that you should receive in your kit, and then a series of black and white pictures, and that's it. However, there is youtube! I found a video of someone showing and explaining exactly how to replace the plastic parts with the metal parts and install the magnet. It was a straightforward process and required minimal tools. I haven't yet wound a warp with my upgraded loom so I can't report on that, but the magnet system does seem to improve the locking operation of the pawl. I recommend the upgrade for anyone who has an older Kromski Harp and wants better warp tension."

"If you are going to use your RH Loom at high tension (i. e. making warp-faced bands), this upgrade is an absolute necessity. The nylon ratchet and pawl that comes with the original Kramski Harp will eventually break down (it took about five years for this to happen to me). Installation is rather easy and I am thrilled with the results. A must-have!"
