2025 Conservation Breed Fiber Bundle
We have selected four fabulous spinning fibers from the group of sheep breeds considered Conservation Breeds.
The Blue Faced Leicester wool is highly prized due to its similarity to mohair and the fabulous yarn it produces. The fiber feels finer than the micron count would suggest. Blue Faced Leicester wool is a favorite among spinners, weavers and knitters.
One of the softest of the mountain breeds, this Conservation Breed originates from the Pennines Mountains in Northern England. The Whiteface Woodland lives up to its name with a wonderfully white wool, similar to the Swaledale breed. Ideal for everyday items (socks, blankets, rugs) as well as outdoor gear - mittens, sweaters, etc. This wool will also felt very nicely.
This 200 year old large hill breed is native to the United Kingdom. The Lonk breed is listed on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST) sheep watch list. A dual purpose breed with unique black and white legs and face with a white fleece. The fleece is typically devoid of kemp. Perfect for hand spinning, felting and many other craft uses.
The Bergschaf or Pecora Alpina Tirolese is a breed of domestic sheep from the mountainous Tyrol area of Austria and Italy. The name means "Tyrolean mountain sheep". It is raised throughout Austria and in the autonomous province of Bolzano in Italy.
