Addendum to previous review. Wet-finishers beware!
"I made a laceweight three ply out of this, 336 yards out of this one bag. Very nice. A bit of learning curve on the speed I had to work it at- there awalys is ona new fiber. THis does not untwist nearly as eagerly as wool, so picking back up means a lot less care is required to let the twist propagate into the hank. The next thing to note is that it clings together more than many. Wool, alpaca, both cling to some extant. Bast doesn't cling much. This clings to itself in some ways and has to be teased apart, and in other ways comes apart more easily than just about anything I've ever worked. While 1019 yards of single all fit on on one jumbo ashford bobbin, the three ply was a lot less cooperative, and piled up higher than I expected. And the smell! I always wet-finish the first skein I make out of any new fiber it settles down the overtwist I tend to accrete have while working out how the fiber responds. / And I have never smelled anything like this. Perhaps unsurprising- it does come from seaweed. But if you make anything out of this, be prepared to smell like citrus whenever it gets wet."
