This particular Pima cotton is grown in California and specially processed to make it easier to spin. This special process was developed by Joan Ruane so that handspinners could more readily enjoy spinning cotton.
Cotton sliver has a definite direction that makes spinning easier. If you are having trouble spinning a smooth strand, try the other end.
