Also known as Endi or Errandi, Eri is a multivoltine silk spun from open-ended cocoons, unlike other varieties of silk. Eri silk is the product of the domesticated silkworm, Philosamia ricini that feeds mainly on castor leaves. 100g
Eri silk is processed without killing the silkworm. Typically, silk cocoons are boiled with the worm inside in order to produce one continuous silk filament from the cocoon. A continuous filament produces fabric that is both shiny and smooth. Interestingly, the eri silkworm spins short segments of a filament and creates a cocoon that is open at one end – enabling the moth to emerge. Often referred to as the “peace silk,” eri is very popular among vegans and Buddhists.

Gorgeous silk, generous amount
"This carded silk is a beautiful shimmering brownish orange color and a lush raw-silk-like texture. The rope of it is quite thick and super long. It is fascinating that the silkworms are allowed to remain alive after the silk harvest is made. I have used it to weave into a macramé wall hanging with other fibers and it really pops with color and texture. I'm so happy I ordered it."

"I received a gift of Bison down, which is too short to spin alone. While I'm learning a new fiber, why not double-down and learn about two? The golden color of this silk pairs nicely with the brown bison down. The silk blends well with the down and is fun to spin. Quality and quantity for the price is very good. I'm including images of a test sample skein and singles on my drop spindle."
