Louet S17 Spinning Wheel - Single Treadle

Comes partially assembled, comparable to other Louet classic wheels, the final assembly is quick and easy. The bobbins are also assembled. The wood is sanded and the edges rounded. The wheel only requires a finishing with lacquer, stain or wax. Since the backpost on the new wheel is 32mm thick, the original S17 skeinwinder will not fit the new version, however, the Louet stand alone skeinwinder will solve that problem. A great wheel at a great price!

The first generation Louët spinning wheels, like the S10 and S17, all have a single belt bobbin drive with an adjustable flyer brake to regulate tension. This results in spinning wheels that make learning to spin easy and are also very suitable spinning thicker yarns.

The bobbins have a sheave with three settings that can be used to obtain three spinning speeds or ratios. By using different types of bobbins and flyers, Louet spinning wheels can be used to produce every kind of yarn, from coarse wool to fine silks.  A High Speed Set is also available for this wheel for easier spinning of very fine yarns.

Finally, an excellent spinning wheel must turn freely and quietly. Accordingly, Louet uses maintenance-free ball bearings in the main hub and at the footman connection. (No lubrication is required).

The Louet S17 Spinning Wheel is made of laminated hardwood with a birch exterior surface.

The double treadle Louet S17 Spinning Wheel can be found here.

I’m a new spinner -

"I’m a new spinner - this is my first wheel - and I’m very pleased with it. It’s simple to use and I think I’ll be satisfied with its capabilities for a long time. It’s a great way to begin spinning for a price I could live with!"

"Still trying to perfect my spin but having fun doing it"

Good beginner wheel

"This is perfect for me as a beginner. That said, there is too much plastic in high wear places. Plastic just does not hold up well in my dry climate. The assembly manual is a joke. Pics are very blurred and most don’t show important orientation markings. Written instructions are vague. I used the picture of the completed wheel on manual cover for the assembly. Thank God it is a very simplistic wheel so assembly was intuitive . I am already looking at other options."

I love this wheel

"This is my first foray into spinning fiber, so I don't have much to compare the Louet against. But for a beginner with one class under her belt, I'd say this wheel is fantastic! And it's the best price for a new spinning wheel that I have found. It was easy to set up, got the hang of the tension really quickly, and I love how you can move the sliding guides on the flyer. I am so happy with it and how quickly the Woolery got it to me, and in perfect shape. And the wool top included has been great to work with as well! I am one happy customer for sure!"

My first wheel

"To start off with, I don't have experience with any other wheels to compare with, so what I mention may be normal. The rod on the flyer and where the flyer sits under the tension strap needed a little oil. I used mineral oil, for better or worse. After that, it seems to work fine. It does want to pull the spun yarn away from me a little bit, even with the break fully undone. Despite this, I have filled 1 bobbin and I am on my second. I find the treadling very easy. I am happy overall, especially since it is one of the lease expensive wheels."

Excellent

"The only problem is that they now have the sliding guides on the flyer which weren't described in the instructions. They've since put a video on the Web site and that was helpful. Another issue is that with the sliding guides, if you plan to stain it will strip color from the flyer. BUT those are relatively small things and everything was top notch and exactly as described."
