Kromski Sonata Encore Spinning Wheel - Walnut Finish

One of Kromski's most popular portable wheels has been updated to now include a magnetic flyer head. Beautiful and compact, it combines the classic architecture of the other Kromski wheels with the functional needs of a wheel that folds. You get both. It is a full-size spinning wheel that packs away as a small package, making it perfect for traveling, guild and festival gatherings or simply storage when not in use.

Daniel Kromski had been contemplating a folding wheel for several years and began in 2006 to put turning knife to wood. The final result is a fusion of the needs of a modern folding wheel and the traditional look of Kromski wheels.

The Sonata is a folding wheel, but much more. Your Sonata also ships with a padded carry bag that the Kromskis have made in Poland. It is padded on all sides with extra heavy padding on base to support the folded wheel. Large outside pocket for spinning supplies with additional pockets inside.

A great first wheel

"I am new to spinning and love my Sonata Encore. For me the distance between the double treadle foot boards works well. They do squeak a bit but it is certainly not a deal breaker. Also I like the fact that I can easily move my wheel from one room to another without taking it apart. Putting it together initially was pretty easy too. I love that the flyer is magnetic making bobbin changing very easy. My Sonata just feels comfortable when I use it and I would highly recommend it."

Great beginner wheel!

"I'm brand-new to spinning and chose this one because it's foldable (I live in a small house) and I'd read good reviews. . . I absolutely love it! I've been able to spin some beautiful, consistent yarn. Set-up was very simple. I do recommend picking up some graphite lubricant from your local hardware store for the treadle hinges -- mine were extremely squeaky. This wheel was clearly made with care, and I look forward to enjoying it for many years!"

Kromski Sonata

"After a lot of research, networking, rentals from LYS and finding generous people who let me try out their spinning wheels I landed on the Sonata from The Woolery. I could not be happier with my choice of wheel or retailer. The sonata is comfortable to use in every seating arrangement I tried, it is super easy to stop & start, the magnetic flyer gave me the option of using either scotch tension or double drive. That was important to me so I could find what works best for me. It also has many options for speed to grow with me as my skills develop. As I learned before purchase, mine came with an annoying squeak in the treadle and when the wax didn’t work, white lithium grease did. The Woolery staff were always quick to respond to all my questions before, during and after purchase and included a lovely niddy noddy along with some wool to practice on. The only downside was not knowing prior to ordering that someone had to be home for delivery. I had to wait another whole day for my wheel’s arrival."

Does everything a Matchless can do.

"I've had this wheel for almost 20 yrs, with jumbo and fine flyers and now the new magnetic flyer (which enables it to operate in double drive). It's every bit as versatile as the Matchless and for me operates absolutely smoothly. Plus it folds up! I like the looks of this better than the very modern types, but it's also more practical as a single wheel than the other (even more gorgeous) Kromski wheels."
