Certified 100% organic wool yarn is hand spun and dyed in Rwanda by the ladies of Handspun Hope.
The wool from their flock of Merino sheep is triple-washed before the ladies of Handspun Hope begin creating yarn using the age-old craft of spinning with only wheels and hand tools. It is then dyed in baths created from native Rwandan plants, giving our palette like none other in the world. The project gives over 120 women, most of them widows and orphaned survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, dignified employment.
Handspun Hope is True Vineyard's primary vehicle in using work-based solutions to poverty through the employment of 120+ marginalized women and widows in Musanze, Rwanda. Handspun Hope is an initiative based on the belief that solutions to poverty should be entrepreneurial, innovative and holistic. Handspun Hope is a certified member of the Fair Trade Federation. In fact, Handspun Hope is the only creator of yarn certified by the Fair Trade Federation.
Please note that this yarn is sold by weight as the yardage on hand-spun yarn can vary.

"Soft, beautiful, easy to work with"
"Very happy with the quality of the yarn and excellent service. Will be a repeat buyer !! Thanks."
"This wool is gorgeous! It's very soft and the color is amazing. Excellent quality! I wanted to make some lovely unique scarves with this wool. I highly recommend! I purchased it because it looked very unique, and I wanted to support a small family owned business and it has a wonderful story behind it. You will not be disappointed!"
"I have been teaching some children to weave tapestry on a cardboard loom. When tapestry weaving, one needs a basic box of colors. These sets of yarns fit the bill. Unfortunately, they have not worked well for the set we are using with the pre-made looms we have to work with. So, I still have a full set of colors which have been unopened. More opportunities for creativity!"
"The yarn is nicely spun. The fiber is not quite as soft as US Merino, but that may be due to the African diet. The yarn will be excellent for making stand out cables or patterns with good definition. I would order it again."
"I sent this yarn as a gift and the recipient loves it! The shipping and customer service was, as always, fantastic. Thank you, Woolery!"
