Dealgan Spindle
Also known as a Scottish Spindle, Farsadh, or Fairsaid. Unique whorl-less spindle that produces a center-pull ball (similar to a nostepinne). Ideal for travel, these stout spindles can withstand a lot and still spin true. This particular design pays homage to the Scottish immigrants and is crafted from selectively harvested sugar maple trees in Nova Scotia, Canada. Add this solid maple spindle to your cart today!

"My partner Kathy has dozens of spindles of all sorts (many from The Woolery!), but when I surprised her with the dealgan, she wondered what it was and what it could do. It didn't take her long to find a tutorial, try out the new spindle and rave about it. ""Perfect for trips!"" she says (she loves to spin while sitting in airports). So simple yet so efficient. And since I'm Scottish by birth, I'm extra proud to share a bit of my heritage with her!"
"I'm glad I bought this for my spindle collection. It's not for a beginner, though. It doesn't spin as long as a whorled spindle."
"My wife loves the Dealghan Spindle I bought from The Woolery!"
"I haven't worked with it much yet. It will be an interesting challenge. It is beautiful in its simplicity and just the little I have done so far has helped me improve my work on the drop spindle I have had for nearly forty years. I am a beginner with this because ""life"" always seemed to get in the way of any sustained practice. I am retired now and can spend more time with both spindles."
"Very good product and spins nicely"
"Moving from draft and park to drop spindle stages. Feels lovely in my hand!"
"I've had a lot of fun learning a new way to spin with the Dealgan. It was a little awkward at first since there is no whorl, but using a half hitch notch on the top notch works great. And it creates a yarn cake while you spin, which I thought was a real time saver. Most importantly, it's incredibly sturdy. I've accidentally sat on it, and nothing happened. It has survived the bowels of my purse, with my spun yarn still attached (see photo). My dog briefly stole it and ran around the house with it, and there's not a mark on it. I don't recommend you do any of these things, but life happens. None of my other spindles could take that level of abuse. Just saying."
"Beautifully finished dealgan. Will be using this in the demo area at the Highland Games in North Florida."
