A very soft, de-haired top made from the undercoat of the yak. Reminiscent of quiviut, although not as fine.
Yak fiber is soft and smooth with wonderful hand. It is combed or shed from the yak and then dehaired. The result is a splendid downy fiber similar to that of the camel. Many hand spinners are afraid of the relatively short staple length but because of the great crimp, it is actually quite easy to spin. It makes a terrific lofty, woolen spun yarn.

"I am presently busy spinning de-haired yak top into a 2ply light fingering weight yarn It makes a sound yarn without putting too much spin on it so it seems like it would make good single yarn as well. I plan on knitting a shawl with it. I purchased light and dark brown and the dark brown seems to have a little hair in it but it is still plenty soft. What a pleasure to work with! Also received some baby camel top with this order. It is also incredibly soft and feels somehow denser that’s the yak top, not so airy. A total luxury. I appreciate that each portion of fiber is in its own plastic drawstring bag."
