What Customers Say

Rated 5 out of 5 — 3 verified reviews

Dating back to the 12th century, extract from the genus Caesalpinia has been used as a deep red to brown dye.  Using a chrome mordant will produce purple shades and alum will produce red shades.  Brazilwood dye has been used for textile dyes, inks, paints, varnish tints, and wood stains.  This is the tree that gave Brazil its name from the Portuguese.

Our extract is produced from the Caesalpinia sappan which is abundant in east Asia.

This dye/additive is not intended for human/animal consumption.

This color is AMAZING.

"I found that the extract dissolves easily, I don't have to use a dye bag -- and the color is just perfect! Shipping was fast and the customer service was excellent (when I had one item that was going to take a little longer, I got a really helpful, lovely (personal, non-corporate yuck) email letting me know. Just a great experience and I will definitely be ordering from here again!"

natural dyeing

"The Brazilwood was easy to use. I first used an alum mordant on the homespun Romney yarn. I make rainbow runners and wall hangings as you can see from the photo. I also used Logwood for the bluish/purple dye on the same type yarn."
