Macramé is the art of using hand-tied knots to create both functional items and works of art. Macramé is most commonly associated with Arabic weavers beginning in the 13th century and was brought to Europe by Moors travelling to Spain from North Africa. However, some historians trace the origins back to 3rd century China.

Reaching its peak popularity in the 1970s, macramé is being rediscovered by an entire new generation of crafters.
