Core Spinning Yarns

Core spinning is a yarn-making technique where you wrap fibers around a strong, central "core" thread while spinning. Instead of drafting all fibers directly into twist like traditional spinning, you let the core carry most of the strength, and the outer fibers create the appearance, texture, and bulk.

How It Works

You start with a stable core thread (often cotton, polyester, or a strong wool single).
As the wheel turns, you feed loose fiber (usually wool roving, batts, or textured add-ins) so it wraps around the core.
The twist travels into the core, locking the outer fibers onto it.

Why Spinners Use It

  • Strength: The core thread adds durability-great for weaving, warp yarns, and heavy-wear items.
  • Texture: You can create bulky, airy, or art-yarn looks without using tons of fiber.
  • Creativity: Ideal for add-ins like sparkle, locks, ribbons, or thick-thin textures.

Common Applications

  • Art Yarns
  • Weaving Warp Yarns
  • Rug Yarn
  • Bulky Knitting Yarn
  • Decorative Accent Trim
