Weaving Pinwheels with Pizzazz - Scarf Project

Amy wove this 'Pinwheels with Pizzazz' scarf to highlight one of the latest additions to our yarn line - Jody Long Alba! Combining the tweedy look with the hand dyed effects of Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply creates a subtle gradient effect across the scarf and makes the contrasting colors pinwheels pop while still also subtly complimenting each other.

Note: Any 8 shaft pinwheel draft will work for this project! Our focus here is the use of color within the warp. So if you have a pinwheel draft that you love, you can use it with this project.

Equipment Needed
- 8 shaft loom
- 12 dent stainless steel reed
- Boat shuttle & bobbin
- Fringe twister

You will need 1 skein each of Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply - Peach Bellini & Jody Long Alba - Loch

Warp: Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply - Peach Bellini - 195 yd ; Jody Long Alba - Loch - 171 yd
Weft
(Use whatever is left over from the warp for the weft)Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply - Peach Bellini - ~204 yd ; Jody Long Alba - Loch - 211 yd

Finishing

  • Remove the scarf from the loom, leaving about 6" of unwoven warp on either side.
  • Our fringe was made by twisting bundles of 2 working ends together in each clip of our fringe twister, then letting them twist together to create twisted bundles of 4 total working ends. If you’ve never used a tool to twist fringe, check out this helpful video:
