For 50 years, Help Heal Veterans has supported the healing and rehabilitation of veterans by providing them with therapeutic craft kits free of charge. These craft kits can include making jewelry, leather-working, building models, and much more. These kits help with improving fine motor skills, improving concentration, relieving anxiety and depression, supporting recovery from substance use, help managing PTSD, and improving self-worth and self-esteem.
They take great care in creating their craft kits with their Craft Care Specialists. The Help Heal Veterans Craft Care Specialists is composed of people from diverse backgrounds, mostly teachers, artist or veterans. These Craft Care specialist will sometimes go into medical facilities and provide hands-on help with craft kits.
This organization is always looking for volunteers and they have multiple locations where you can sign up to help. They have three groups that you can volunteer for, one of the teams is the Craft Care Volunteers. The Craft Care Volunteers help by spreading the word to patients and supporting veterans through their healing process with a clinician or therapist's guidance. Another team that you could volunteer for would be the Crafting Volunteers. The Crafting Volunteers will be tasked with helping veterans in completing therapeutic craft kits. These volunteers will also help in the unpacking shipments of craft kits, stock shelves and assist with office administrative duties as needed. The last team you could volunteer for would be the Craft Kit Assemblers. The Craft Kit Assemblers are tasked with assembling donated materials and turning them into up-cycled therapeutic craft kits for distribution.
