The niddy noddy is a very useful accessory for winding yarn from the spinning wheel bobbin and creating a 60" (1.5m) skein.
Made from turned Silver Beech hardwood, the specially shaped crossbars allow the skein (hank) of yarn to slide off easily when made.
It is easy to dismantle for storage or transportation.

Nice redesign of their old niddy noddy
"I had to buy a replacement for the 20+ year old Ashford niddy noddy that my cats chewed up. I loved the old one, but the newer design might be even better. The grip is more robust and the ends hold the yarn a little better. It's still the perfect size to wind a skein off the bobbins of my Ashford Traditional wheel. I used the Ashford finishing wax on it since I had it on hand. The wax is great for things that don't need to be super smooth, but on this It took several coats with sanding in between to get it the way I wanted it. If I were to do it over I would sand, stain and apply rub-on polyurethane on it like I did my old one for a slick finish that won't snag the yarn."

"This works as expected. It has a nice finish and does not ""catch"" the yarn. I did use finishing wax. I like that it comes apart for storage. It's very convenient for creating skeins with homespun yarn."
I have two Ashford niddy-noddys
"I have two Ashford niddy-noddys from The Woolery and I love them both. One is a small (36” around one loop) and the other a medium, 60” around. They are well prepared, although if you do fine a slightly rough spot, Ashford always includes a little piece of fine sandpaper to work it off. I’d recommend them to anyone who is hand spinning."
