Madder is a beautiful, permanent red dye from the roots of a pretty, vine-like, low growing herb that is extremely drought-resistant. It has been cultivated in Europe and the Middle East for at least 5,000 years. Similar wild varieties have been used by Native Americans and in the Far East. First quality ground roots make dyeing with this traditional dye easy. Steep the roots, add fiber and simmer at low temperatures to develop a dark red.
This dye/additive is not intended for human/animal consumption.

"I build violins and use madder root to make a coloring pigment for my varnish. This worked very well for my purpose. Once processed, it produced a beautiful red, with a bit more brown than others I have purchased. Understand that there is great variation in natural pigments, but this batch was superb for my application. Thanks."
"I enjoy dyeing the actual dried root. It not only makes a beautiful deep rust color, but it can be re-used over and over to make a very pretty orange."
