Tannin extract comes from gallnuts, which contain approximately 50-60% tannin and has a lovely tea-like aroma. Gallnuts are produced as a plant excretion generated when irritants are released by the larvae of gall insects, such as the gall wasp. Gallnuts are a native product of China and Southeast Asia, but are also produced in small amounts in Turkey, India, Japan, and Korea.
The dye is very light, imparting a subtle beige color. Its power comes when it is combined with iron to create silver, gray and black in combination with other dyes.
This dye/additive is not intended for human/animal consumption.

"Great very effective as a step in the pre-mordanting process on cellulose fibers to be followed with alum/soda ash. However, I have found that at 10% weight of fiber, it does yield more of a pink color. Although of course that will go away once you dye with your dye stuff."
