Rosie's Speedweve Style Mending Loom

The original Speedweaver or Speedweve, was produced in England by E & A Chesstok in the 1940s and 1950s. The original concept was to provide a simple and easy tool to mend clothing during WWII on the homefront.

Similar looms were produced in other countries under names such as Darn Easy, Daga Darner, Jasco Mender, Fredos, Star Darning Machine and Stoppapparat.

Our version of the mending loom harkens back to the original 14-hook design and is suitable for darning, mending and even adding some flair to a weaving or knitting project.

There are two basic components to this mending loom:

  • Wooden Disc – Holds the fabric in place with rubber bands.
  • 14 Metal Hooks – Holds the “warp” in place while the “weft” is built with a weaving needle. The hooks can be “flipped” to open and close the shed allowing for easy access with the weaving needle.

Features:

  • 14-Hook Configuration
  • Crochet Hook
  • Weaving Needle
  • Wooden Disc Diameter: 2.5"
  • Instruction Sheet

Yarn Size Recommendations:

The yarn size you use will depend on how many hooks you plan to use and/or yarn. If you are planning on using all 14 hooks, we recommend something small like embroidery floss, lace weight, or fingering weight yarn.

If you are using DK or Sport Weight yarn, we recommend skipping every other hook when you create your warp.

Loom

"The loom is exactly as described. The price was reasonable. My only wish is that it came with better directions. I was able to find a good video that showed how to use it."

honestly I have not tried

"honestly I have not tried it yet!!! Maybe this weekend!!! My friend and i thoroughly enjoyed our visit with you this past March!!!"

It works well and I will use often!

"The loom ia well made and darns as expected. I suggest starting with a heavy material like denim or a sweater not a flannel shirt. There is a learning curve the first time and fragile material complicated it-I needed interface to back to avoid the flannel from unraveling. The lack of one star is for the awful instructions. The four photos are tiny, light, and not legible. The written directions do not adequately describe how to use. Buyers will need to find on-line instructions to use."

Game changer!

"This tool is a game changer. I used to dread mending all my hand knit socks. Now I look forward to it. This mending loom is fun and easy to use. The mends are strong and neat looking. I love this thing!"

My friend recommended Rosie’s Speedweve

"My friend recommended Rosie’s Speedweve Styke Mending Loom and I ordered from the woolery right away. It is quality built, sturdy and easily functional, not fussy at all. I used it once right away, and am already glad I ordered it to make mending a more pleasant experience with lovely results. I am looking forward to next projects!"
