Valley Rayon Chenille Yarn
This rayon chenille is made using colorfast dyes. A bit more expensive, but well worth the cost. Rayon chenille yarn is spectacular when woven. We recommend a sett of 12 to 18 epi. Fine gauge machine knitters can also produce wonderful fabrics with rayon chenille. (We do not recommend rayon chenille yarn this fine for hand knitting it is slippery and has no resilience, so it is most likely to stretch.) It comes in coordinating solid and variegated colors.
Rayon Chenille yarn can be used to make wonderful towels, bathrobes, soft sweaters and bathmats. Unlike most yarns which are spun from a raw fiber, Rayon Chenille is actually constructed in a process similar to weaving. The yarn is produced using a center strand made up of very tightly wound, long fibers. Shorter, softer fibers are then spun into these center strands to give the yarn the appearance of a very thin woven fabric. The long, sturdy center strand gives the yarn its durability, and the short pieces gives it the soft feel. Because Rayon Chenille is crafted from wood pulp, most consider it to be a natural fiber. "Very happy with how vibrant the color was, I used it as a weft and was pleased with how it wove."
"I love this yarn! I used it at 18 ends per inch, and wove a beautiful scarf. It was smooth, and soft. I didn’t wet finish the scarf, but I did wet finish a sample l, and it didn’t shrink much at all. The cut ends didn’t fray much, especially after tying them off. I didn’t have to use any products to prevent it from shedding all over the place. My only complaint about this yarn is that there weren’t enough color options. I would love to see some gradient color options. Over all, 10/10! I’ll definitely be buying this again."
"I have purchased this yarn through Valley Yarns directly (Webs) in the past, but no intention of purchasing the product in the future . The older yardage 1250 worked well with a 12 dent reed on a rigid heddle loom - created a dense weave. I wove scarves at that time. Within the last year, they changed the yardage to 1450 yards. I now have been circular machine knitting with both yarn yardages. The new yardage creates product that is not dense, while the older product did. The picture (if I could post one) would show a comparison between the two when machine knitting (both times paired with another valley Yarns 8/2 product) : blue is original, and teal is the newer."
"I love this yarn because it is super soft; however, it can be a bit difficult to weave with. Knots are almost impossible to undo so I cut them out when I can. It can sag when used in a warp as well. But overall it’s still one of my favorite yarns to use."
"I weave this chenille yarn on a 4-harness loom. Makes beautiful, soft scarves & shawls with excellent drape. Rich jewel-tone colors have a subtle shimmer. Only caveat is twisted fringe tends to worm. For this reason, I recommend ONLY hand washing & air drying (no machine)."
"Great service!"
"I love the color but I’m not sure it will work for rigid heddle warp. Going to use it as weft."
