What Customers Say

Rated 4.6 out of 5 — 16 verified reviews

A very fine grade, high quality Hand Combed Flax that is uncut and at least 30" long. This is a twisted skein preparation, often used for historical re-enactments. Needs to be un-coiled before spinning. Nice and fine.

Strick is a bundle of fiber ready to be converted into sliver.

Flax is one of the world’s oldest fibers with fabrics dating to 10,000BC found in Turkey that are made from linen (spun flax). A bast fiber, flax is similar to hemp, jute, ramie and stinging nettle. Historically, bast fibers have been used to make yarn, rope, burlap, paper and geotextile matting. Bast fibers have even been used to weave shoes in prehistoric times and are still made in select forest communities of Northeastern Europe.

WONDERFUL Flax Stricks

"I bought these flax stricks for a Spinning Flax Into Linen class I was teaching and was so impressed with them. Long, long fiber length. No need to hackle, very little boon. I would put the fiber quality at medium (not coarse, but not super fine either). Being from Egypt, I was a bit worried about an “oily” smell, but that was not the case. These stricks had the scent of freshly mowed hay/bailing twine."

Flax Strick

"Received product is as expected. Have not started spinning yet, but it will be great."

Very nice, but may vary

"I had purchased this flax strick previously over the summer, and I was very pleased with the preparation! It was very well prepared and had next to no vegetable matter remaining; I could dress my distaff and go straight to spinning. However, when I purchased it recently during November, it seemed that there was quite a bit more vegetable matter in it compared to what I had purchased previously. I'm going to try and scutch it a bit more to try to get some of the excess vegetable matter out. It left quite a mess on my lap when I was spinning it; it kept shedding the dry matter as I spun."

This was my first time

"This was my first time using strick, but it was easy to arrange on the distaff and easy to spin. I purchased it for a demonstration at the county fair and it was a really great experience."

Fairly coarse fiber-OK for demos

"This is definitely not a highly hackled fiber. It still has a considerable amount of boon particles embedded. The fiber is quite coarse, too. U. S. grown perhaps, since most areas of the country don't have ideal growing conditions for fine linen flax. OK for experimenting, but don't expect to get a fine yarn from this preparation."

Nice strick

"This is the first strick of flax I've ever bought even though I've been spinning for about 35 years. Its nice and I wish I'd have gotten more of it."
