This Ashford wheel may not be your everyday wheel but for special spinning jobs and as a workhorse for plying large quantities from smaller bobbins, it is perfect. It has a huge bobbin capacity of two plus pounds. This means if you are spinning big or novelty yarns you can spin and spin and not worry about filling up small bobbins found on nearly all wheels.
This is a specialist wheel designed to spin extra bulky yarn used in rug weaving and chunky knitting or for plying bulk quantities. The orifice is extra large. The ball bearings and double treadle enable both easy starts and treadling. The slow drive ratios and sensitive leather flyer brake system are ideal for creating unique novelty yarns.

"If you want to spin up to 1"" thick yarn, this is an excellent wheel to get. It is easy to assemble and very sturdy. I got mine unfinished and used a simple butcher block conditioner to finish it. Mine barely needed any sanding at all. I use it all the time to make plastic yarn (plarn) rope. Having 2 pedals is nice, and 3 drive band setting is helpful too."
"So I bought this doing research and thinking it would be awesome to have a bobbin this size to do a lot of single ply! Well! The pull is horrid i fallowed the instructions and it is still pulling hard. I had a friend of mine who has been spinning for years and had her friend who was been spinning for longer look at this wheel and see what is wrong. The only thing that they can come up with is, it is bobbin driven and that the bobbin is to heavy and pulls hard. I don’t recommend this wheel for beginner spinners!"
