Making Needle Felted Animals: Over 20 Wild, Domestic, and Imaginary Creatures

Author: Steffi Stern and Sophie Buckley

Making Needle Felted Animals is an essential guide for those interested in the popular craft of needle felting. Whether one is completely new to needle felting or has extensive experience, this book offers precise instructions and creative inspiration. The authors are experienced in making and teaching crafts to students of all ages and abilities. Their instructions are easy to follow and include practical and creative ideas to fix common mistakes and successfully complete projects. The 20 patterns and design ideas arise from well-loved stories and myth, as well as from a genuine love of the natural world and animals, whether they are family pets ("Our Friend Dexter") or animals in the wild whose widespread ill-treatment has brought them to public attention. Requiring no experience other than an interest in working and playing with wool, the projects build progressively on skills throughout the book, and will quickly help the reader become a real needle felter.

Steffi Stern has been involved with handcrafting from an early age. After having a family, she opened a craft shop in Gloucestershire, UK, and became increasingly interested in needle felting, a means of sculpting with wool. She appears on Hochanda TV (UK) as their resident needle-felting expert and, with her business partner Sophie Buckley, operates The Makerss, an online needle-felting specialty shop.

Sophie Buckley is a crochet and needle-felt artist working in the Cotswolds. She studied Contemporary Crafts at Falmouth University, having grown up in a creative family. She says 'I was knitting, crocheting, clay modelling, felting, painting, drawing and writing stories from a young age. Her work is beautifully sculptural and organic, inspired by natural forms. She also runs popular workshops in Gloucestershire. Sophie lives in Nailsworth with her partner and a recently rescued Romanian lurcher.
