Glimakra Emilia Rigid Heddle Loom

The Emilia is a portable, folding rigid heddle loom that weaves 13 or 19 inches wide. Rigid heddle looms are a good easy way to learn to weave. This new loom is made of birch, is lightweight and folds for portability. The heddle is held by brackets so it's secure for easier weaving and will not topple over when you are weaving. The locking of the loom frame provides a tensioning device which always gives you even tension on your warp. Sturdy metal ratchets, with many teeth give you the tension you need. With the written instructions, you can be weaving in short order. There is a double heddle kit and extra dent heddles are also available. The pits

"Our newest acquisition is the Glimakra Siru. Absolute nightmare assembly with 4 parts missing from package. Youtube videos helped. Wanted a portable high tension rh loom for travel. Background for bonafides includes over 55 years of handspinning, weaving and dyeing. We have over 28 looms with largest a Loomcraft you could nap on. This rh loom is awful. Sanding, finishing and assembly were NO FUN. Does it work? Yes. However, the Halo Effect has scorched this loom for us. Contemplating gifting it to an unpopular acquaintance. ."

First rigid heddle loom - so far, so good!

"This is my first rigid heddle loom - so far I'm quite happy with the Emilia. After comparing & researching thru the most popular brands, and even considering some handmade versions, I decided to try the Emilia. What convinced me to choose this one, were the use of metal ratchets/pawls over plastic or nylon, the ability to fold down & the elevated angle of the shed instead of a flat horizontal weaving area. Took a star out for lack of English instructions in the box. Downloaded in Eng. at the Glimakra USA website, however wouldn't you expect to have bilingual instructions included in the box? Direct warping was easy using a combo of YouTube, a beginners book & the brands instructions. I'm still not sure how to handle the heddle right - it seems like it needs to be placed back onto the heddle bar holder at a certain tilted angle to slide in more smoothly rather than straight at it's vertical position. I'm a real beginner, so I'm sure it will take a bit more practice. I'm interested in doing more Saori style weaving & possibly try tapestry on it. Overall, I would definitely recommend this loom."

So versatile!

"I switched my floor loom for this Glimakra Emelia, thinking that ""easier to use"" also meant ""does less. "" I was so wrong! After I add a second heddle, I'll be able to weave patterns I used to do on the floor loom! I'm so excited about exploring all of the possibilities. The project on the loom right now is a sampler to help me get used to the loom, which is SO easy to warp and to use. I love it!"
