Egyptian is an extra-long staple cotton (ELS) grown in the Nile River Valley in Egypt. Genetically, Egyptian cotton and Pima cotton are the same. However, Pima cotton is grown in the Southwestern United States and named in honor or the Pima tribe of Arizona for their work with the United States government to perfect this American variety in the early 20th century.
