It can be used as both an after-bath to adjust an alum-mordanted color, or it can be used as a pre-mordant on its own. Will tend to turn colors more blue/green. Unlike iron compounds, copper sulfate will not rough up protein based fibers. Typically produces a more colorfast result than fiber dyed with alum.
