BOAT SHUTTLES

 Leclerc makes beautiful maple boat shuttles: the 11" (regular or slim (shown  right, bottom) is recommended for table looms while the 11.25" is standard for floor looms. These shuttles come with 4" styrene bobbins. The 15" boat shuttle comes with a 6" bobbin and is used for thick yarns.

 Leclerc is now offering its 11.25" shuttle in high density polythelene in addition to maple wood. These are very inexpensive sturdy colored boat shuttles that will perform as well as the wooden ones and will last a lifetime. Each includes a 4" styrene bobbin. Available in red, blue, yellow.

Bluster Bay makes gorgeous bull-nose boat shuttles out of exotic woods; sizes 8" and 10". Bobbins (4") extra. They also make a Swedish-style low profile shuttle, ideal for damask, opphämta or any weaving done on a loom that creates a small shed. Sizes: 14", 16" and 18". Special Shuttles, End-Feed

New! LECLERC END-FEED SHUTTLES: these are13" and come w ith a wooden pirn. A special tension device allows the weaver to adjust the tension for each type of yarn. The yarn feeds through the tension device quickly and easily. More pirns (6 1/4" long) are sold separately (see below).

BLUSTER BAY END-FEED SHUTTLES: for perfect selvedges and speedy weaving. Unlike other end-feed shuttles these do not require a tool for threading or tension adjustment, and the tension can be adjusted during weaving without breaking the weft or unthreading the shuttle. 2 sizes: 13" (will take a 5.5" AVL pirn) and 15" (wil l take an 8" AVL or Schacht pirn). Pirns sold separately.

How does it work? The yarn comes off the end of the pirn and through the round brass eye. To apply tension, you guide the yarn around one or more of the brass hooks; the more hooks used the more tension. To adjust for more or less tension, just increase or decrease the number of hooks in play. Easy.

These flat shuttles come in various lengths, from the 6" Harrisville maple shuttle (second from top), the Beka cherry shuttles (pictured at top) in sizes 8", 12", 16", 21", and 25", and the elegant Kromski shuttles (pictured at bottom) made of ash in sizes 4", 8", 12", 16", 24" and 32", all x 1 3/8" width. The Kromski shuttles also have an knife edge on both sides which is nice for beating.

BELT SHUTTLES AND INKLE SHUTTLES

These are similar to a stick shuttle but wider and thicker; one edge is beveled and used for beating in the weft. Great for card, inkle and backstrap weaving.The Leclerc model (second from t op) is 6" and Beka (pictured at top) is 8.5". NEW! The Ashford is 7" long and the widest at 2".

The beautifully crafted knife-edge shuttle pictured at right is recommended by author/weaver Linda Hendrickson for tablet weaving. Approximately 8" long, it is made of Mexican rosewood.

POKE SHUTTLES
|
|
New! From New Voyager Trading. These handy shuttles are just right for inlay techniques or any weaving where the shuttle is "poked" in and out of the warp. They are shaped like a tiny rag shuttle with pointed ends. Made of natural, unstained rosewood so the depth of color will vary somewhat. The range is from deep reddish mahogany to a walnut color. The finish on these shuttles looks and feels like satin, and the tips are smooth and rounded downward slightly so that they will not catch the warp. They are best used with yarns in the finer-medium range (space for yarns is 5/16"). And, of course, a poke shuttle does not allow the weft yarn to touch the warp so these babies fly like the wind through your shed. Sizes: 6", 9", 12".

From Bluster Bay. These poke shuttles are a little narrower than the above (space for yarns is 3/16" wide) but otherwise fairly similar with even more pointed ends. Available in 9" length in the following exotic woods at this time: African Bubinga, African Wenge, Black Cherry, Bocote, Rock Maple. You may request a particular wood over the phone or under "special instructions" if you order on-line - or we will select for you.
