Ashford Drumcarders (new 2 speed model)

This new, improved model has two ratios for even more flexibility and control when carding and blending:
Use the 6:1 ratio to prepare your fleece. The controlled intake and carding will produce a smooth even batt ready for blending, spinning or felting.

Use the 4:1 ratio to blend sliver, colours and different fibre types consistently into an open and airy batt.

The new carder retains the adjustable drum clearance - allows you to set the teeth distance for total control of your fibre. All nylon bearings ensure it is light and easy to turn. The card cloth has wire teeth with a special protective coating and a flexible rubber backing for long life. The carder is strong and robust with the body made from Silver Beech hardwood. The carder has rubber feet to prevent it slipping. Card 50 gm (2oz ) batt quickly and efficiently. It comes assembled and lacquered ready to use. Awl/doffer, 2 clamps and carding instructions are included. Batt size 55cm x 23cm (22ins x 9ins)- Weight only 5kg (11lb)

Choose either- Fine 72 point for finer wools & exotic fibres- Coarse 36 point for stronger wools or fibre with more vegetable matter to remove.

Clemes & Clemes Drumcarders

Oak frame and carders are completely assembled and ready to use right out of the box. The card clothing is available in fine tooth and coarse tooth. Most spinners require fine teeth on their carders. Almost any type of fiber can be carded with the fine tooth carder.

We recommend coarse teeth on a carder only when carding a coarser fiber and a rougher texture is desired. The carding drums are adjusted at the factory and rarely ever need adjustment. The small version (not pictured) has all the features of the 8” drum carder but in a 4”width. Excellent for the occasional spinner or the spinner who travels a lot.

Strauch Drumcarders

We stock Strauch drumcarders. All come with a Knuckle-Saving Batt Picker and a Doffer Brush. We recommend the Extra Fine card clothing (128 teeth/square inch) as this will handle all fibers including very fine ones such as Merino, llama and on down to the coarse fibers.

With the brush attachment this cloth can be used successfully with kid mohair, alpaca and angora.

The most popular Strauch drumcarder is the Model 405, Strauch's Finest, the ULTIMATE drumcarder!!

MODEL 405 or Strauch's "Finest" is the most popular of the line. It is 8" wide and is available with 128 teeth per square inch (will handle fine, medium and coarse fibers) and a brush attachment installed. The wood frame is ash, finished in a warm oak, and 6" high, 2" higher than the other Strauch models. This permits a larger sprocket on the small drum giving a 5:1 ratio (compared to 4:1 ratio for other models) between the 2 drums which allows more speed and carding action per revolution.

Comes with the Knuckle-Saver Batt Picker, Doffer brush, clamps, a cleaning brush and the Brush Attachment. Plus now, the new Strauch Teasing Tool is also included with this carder.

FRI-5405 - $695 including shipping within the continental US.

NEW! Strauch 405 "Finest" Motorized Drumcarder

The models 405 Finest and Finest double-wide (see above) are now available motorized. These high tech drumcarders feature both variable speed AND reverse functions. The "infinitely variable speed" feature (not just two or three speed settings) is especially valuable if you work with fine fibers like alpaca, merino, cashmere, etc. The carders use very high quality, durable, electronically controlled motors that are made in the USA! Both motor and electronic controller were engineered by the manufacturer to be quiet, robust, dependable, self-diagnostic and trouble-free.

Comes with the Knuckle-Saver Batt Picker, Doffer brush, clamps, a cleaning brush and the Brush Attachment. Plus now, the new Strauch Teasing Tool is also included with this carder.

The advantages of using a motorized drumcarder are many:

- you save time; this is especially important if you are carding a lot of fibers for your own use or for others as a cottage industry;
- more control: both hands are free so you can control how the fiber is being carded or blended;
- an enjoyable experience: if you have wrist, elbow and/or shoulder issues, you will find your carding experience painless and relaxing;
- consistency: you will be able to card fibers at a consistent speed and make consistent batts.

DRUMCARDER BRUSH ATTACHMENT

The Fine Fiber Brush Attachment increases the carder's ability to card mohair, angora, alpaca and other fine fluffy and low crimp fibers that tend to collect on the small licker-in drum. With all fibers, a thicker, denser and more uniform batt is produced by using the attachment. Now available for the following brands of drumcarders: specify brand.
